Product Description

BRANDplates® for cell culture are available in a variety of surface treatments for use in the culture of a wide range of cell types. Three different surface treatements, cellGrade™, cellGrade™ plus, and cellGrade™ premium are available for the culture of adherant cells. For cultivation of suspension and stem cells, inertGrade™ microplates are available. All BRANDplates® cell culture plates are sterilized by β-radiation or ethylene oxide, are DNA-, DNase-, RNase-free, and are packaged individually wrapped. Select from a full range of well shapes and colors in 96-, 384- and 1536-well formats. 96-well plates have orange embossed alphanumeric lettering for easy identification of wells.

cellGrade™
BRAND cellGrade™ plates are a standard plate for the cultivation of adherent cell lines. The surface is hydrophilic compared to untreated polystyrene, with freely-accessible carboxyl and hydroxyl groups. Serum components are easily bound allowing cells to directly attach and spread out quickly and with a better rate of yield.

cellGrade™ plus
BRAND cellGrade™ plus plates for the cultivation of cells in reduced-serum media and fastidious cell lines. In addition to carboxyl and hydroxyl groups, free amino groups are present on the surface for a protein-line composition that allows for direct cellular attachment. Cells adhere faster, spread out, and have a better rate of yield. An excellent choice for sensitive cell lines.

cellGrade™ premium
BRAND cellGrade™ premium plates feature surface characteristics for the most demanding cell lines. A Poly-D-Lysine-equivalent, with analogous results regarding cell growth and morphology. Cell adhesion is optimized, reducing cell damage from frequent washing. Serum-free and serum-reduced cultivation is possible. A physical/chemical treatment that has long room-temperature shelf life compared to biological coatings.

inertGrade™
BRAND inertGrade™ plates are especially suited for cell cultures when adhesion is not desired. Hydrogel technology optimizes the surface characteristics to suppress interactions of cells or protein with the polystyrene plastic. This reduction of cell adhesion and protein adsorption minimizes enzyme and cellular activation to aid in the inhibition of the differentiation of progenitor or stem cells and promotes the formation of spheroids.

How are the different BRANDplates® surfaces produced?

The surface modifications of the microplates are produced via a physical-chemical process. This kind of surface modification creates durable surfaces that can be stored at room temperature.

How are the microplates sterilized?

Most microplates are sterilized via β-radiation in a validated process according to ISO 11137 and the AAMI-guidelines. A SAL of 10-6 is achieved. The sterility meets the requirements of the Ph. Eur. and the USP 29. inertGrade™ plates are sterilized with ethylene oxide.

What is the difference between a C-, F-, V-, and U-bottom plate?

BRANDplates® 96-well plates are offered with four distinct well bottom plates, with different characteristics and advantages -

  • F-bottom: Flat well bottom. The F-bottom is designed for precise optical measurements and is well suited for colorimetric determinations as well as microscopy applications. Additionally, the F-bottom is used for specific applications such as cell culture.
  • C-bottom: Flat bottom with curved edges. The C-bottom combines the advantages of the U- and F-bottoms. Because of the curved edges, better sample mixing is obtained, while the flat bottom in the middle area of the wells allows precise optical measurements. The C-bottom is especially suited for immunological assays, as sample stirring has a major impact on precise assay results as well as the optical measurement to determine those results.
  • U-bottom: Round-shaped well bottom. Wells with a U-bottom have no edges, so they are well suited for stirring and washing of samples. This bottom shape is used for agglutination and other assays requiring these tasks.
  • V-bottom: Conically-shaped well bottom. Sample recovery is maximized with the V-bottom shape. For this reason plates with a V-bottom are especially suited for precipitation assays and storage.

What is the difference between cellGrade™, cellGrade™ plus, and cellGrade™ premium surfaces?

BRANDplates® cell culture plates are offered with three different surfaces for adherent cell lines -

  • cellGrade™: The cellGrade™ surface is a polystyrene (PS) surface that is hydrophilic compared to non-treated PS. It is the standard plate for the cultivation of adherent cell lines.
  • cellGrade™ plus: The cellGrade™ plus surface has a protein-like surface (carboxyl and hydroxyl chemical groups, as well as free amino groups). These plates can be used for cultivation of fastidious cell lines, which will adhere faster and have a higher rate of yield than on standard cell culture plates.
  • cellGrade™ premium: The cellGrade™ premium surface is a Poly-D-Lysine-equivalent surface. These plates are recommended for the cultivation of cell lines with the highest demands on their environment (i.e. for serum-free and serum-reduced cultivation of cells). They can be stored at room temperature.

Are there BRANDplates® microplates for cultivation of suspension cells?

Yes. For the cultivation of suspension cells, inertGrade™ plates should be used. The inertGrade™ surface reduces cell adhesion and protein adsorption, and is especially recommended for the cultivation of suspension cell lines. Also, inertGrade™ plates do not require refrigeration!
