PLT™ Pipette Leak Testing Unit

Product and ordering information for the PLT Pipette Leak Testing Unit: Detect even the smallest leaks in air displacement pipettes between calibrations; test with/without tips; results in seconds.

Catalog #: N/A Category:

The BRAND PLT™ Pipette Leak Testing Unit detects even the smallest leaks in air displacement pipettes. Leakage, arising from damage either to the seals, pistons or tip cones, is the most frequent cause of inaccuracy in piston-operated pipettes. To ensure accurate pipetting results, air-displacement pipettes must be calibrated at regular intervals. While the PLT™ cannot replace regular gravimetric testing, daily pipette checks can provide a safeguard during the periods between calibrations.

Product Features:

  • Test with or without tips
  • Quantifiable results with pass/fail criteria for each pipette size
  • Results in seconds

Now available! New PLT™ Connect Software allows tracking of instruments and printing of test results.

Can I use the PLT™ unit instead of sending my pipettes for calibration?

No. The PLT™ unit does not replace regular gravimetric testing of your pipettes. However, what it does provide is a safeguard during the periods between calibrations. Daily checks with the PLT™ unit can detect small leaks which affect the accuracy of the pipette, ensuring greater process reliability.

What is the purpose of testing my pipette both with and without a tip attached?

When you perform the test with a tip attached, the entire pipette system is checked. If a leak is detected, repeat the test without the tip. If no leak is detected without a tip attached, the pipette is funtioning fine. The leak is arising from the tip cone/tip coupling region. Most likely the tip is not a good fit. Try a different brand of tip.

Can I test my multi-channel pipette with the PLT™ unit?

Yes. The multichannel pipette adapter is not provided with the PLT™ unit, but is available for purchase. It is catalog number 703977.

Can I get replacement filters for the pipette adapters?

Yes. The replacement filters are sold in packs of 10 - catalog number 703978.

Tech Info & Warnings

Limitations of Use

The instrument offers a rapid and simple test of leakage in air-displacement pipettes within the following limitations:

  • Use between +15°C and +35°C (59°F and 95°F)
  • Relative humidty max. 80%
  • For use at elevations up to 2000m above sea level
  • Storage temperature 0°C to +50°C

Operating Exclusions

Users must check the suitability of the instrument for the intended application:

  • Do not use the instrument to aspirate liquids
  • Avoid aggressive vapors (corrosion hazard!)
  • Hollow vessels that are not specified for vaccum use should never be evacuated, since the vessel can burst
