Pipette Technology Over the Years

Did you know that mouth pipetting was once a common practice in labs? The method involved scientists using their mouth to create suction and transfer liquids, like sipping a straw. The technique posed serious risks, including exposure to harmful substances as well as contamination of samples. The practice began to decline in the 1970s with the introduction of piston-operated pipettes as a safer alternative.

Heinrich Schnitger, frustrated with mouth pipetting, conducted pioneering work at the University of Marburg in Germany during the 1950s. This work ultimately led to a patent in 1961 and the development of the first micropipette, revolutionizing liquid handling in laboratories. Schnitger's invention laid the groundwork for modern micropipettes, which have since become indispensable tools in scientific research.

Winter Sales Meeting

The BRANDTECH sales team recently convened in Lake Nona, Florida, for a productive session focused on training, collaboration, and aligning the company's overarching goals and objectives. Such gatherings are rare opportunities for the team to meet face-to-face, making this occasion particularly valuable. During this time together, team members exchanged insights, participated in detailed product overviews, and explored various market opportunities.

Among the highlights of the event were the prestigious 2023 Awards ceremony. John Kalinowski, VACUU·LAN® Sales Manager, was honored with the President's Award, recognizing him as the Top Sales Performer for the year. Additionally, Luisa Marino, Canadian Regional Sales Manager, was celebrated for earning the President's Club Award for achieving the top sales region, securing the #1 spot in Regional Sales.

75th annual PITTCON Conference Review

Last month, members of the BRANDTECH team made their way to San Diego to exhibit at the 75th annual Pittcon. This event showcased the latest advancements in lab technology, trends in liquid handling and lab automation. Life science research was a focal point for this event, as well as a continued focus on PFAS regulations. Visitors to the BRANDTECH booth gravitated towards our new products, the 1250 µL volume Transferpette electronic multi-channel pipettes, and the Rigid Frame PCR plates. Vacuum technology was also a hot topic in the booth, with the PC 3001 VARIO® select chemistry diaphragm vacuum pump and its quiet functionality. Overall, the event was a great opportunity for networking and keeping up with industry trends.
