Pipette Tips for the Transferpette and How to Pick the Right One
Using the correct pipette tip for a given pipette model is one of the most practical steps a lab can take to protect measurement accuracy. When a tip fits and seals correctly, air displacement is predictable, and delivered volumes are consistent. When it does not, variability is introduced at the point of the measurement, often without an obvious sign that something is wrong. This guide covers tip compatibility for the Transferpette® single and multichannel pipette range, including both standard pipette tips and filter tips, so the right selection can be confirmed before ordering.
For the complete compatibility data in a single reference, view or download the Transferpette® Tip Selection Chart. Everything in this guide draws from that reference.
Why Tip Compatibility Affects Accuracy
A pipette tip is not simply a consumable. It is part of the measurement system. The seal between the tip and the pipette shaft determines whether air displacement behaves predictably during aspiration and dispensing. A tip that does not seat consistently introduces variability where precision matters most.
BRAND® pipette tips and filter tips are tested specifically for BRAND pipettes and for most models from GILSON®, Thermo Fisher Scientific FINNPIPETTE®, Eppendorf®, and Sartorius®. That said, compatibility is not guaranteed across all serial numbers and manufacturing dates, since pipette shafts can change over time. BRAND offers free sample bags to verify fit before committing to a full order.
One important consideration: the tip used during factory calibration is the reference point for a pipette's documented accuracy. Using a different tip may require a calibration adjustment to verify that the instrument continues to deliver within its specified tolerances.
Pipette Tips for the Transferpette® Single Channel
The Transferpette® single channel range spans 1 µL to 10 mL. Tip compatibility varies across that range as follows.
- For volumes up to 20 µL. The 0.1-20 µL, 0.5-20 µL, and 1-50 µL tips are compatible with the 1 µL, 2.5 µL, and 10 µL nominal volume pipettes. The 0.1-20 µL tip also fits the 20 µL model.
- For mid-range volumes. The 2-200 µL and 5-300 µL tips cover the widest range of Transferpette single channel models, fitting pipettes from 20 µL through 300 µL nominal volume. These are the standard tips for general laboratory use.
- For high-volume work. The 50-1000 µL tip fits the 500 µL and 1000 µL models. For the 1000 µL and 2.5 mL pipettes, the 50-1250 µL and 50-1250 µL XL tips are also compatible. The XL version is 102 mm long versus 86 mm for the standard 1250 µL tip, useful for deep-well plates and similar applications.
- For large-volume pipettes. The 0.5-5 mL tip fits the 2 mL, 2.5 mL, and 5 mL models. The 1-10 mL tip is for the 10 mL Transferpette only.
A note on color coding: loose 2-200 µL and 50-1000 µL tips are yellow or blue. Palletized versions of those same tips are colorless and sit in a yellow or blue carrier plate.
Pipette Tips for the Transferpette® Multichannel
The Transferpette® multichannel range runs from 10 µL to 1250 µL nominal volume. Tip compatibility is more focused across this range.
- 10 µL multichannel. The 0.1-20 µL, 0.5-20 µL, and 1-50 µL tips are compatible.
- 50-300 µL multichannel. The 2-200 µL and 5-300 µL tips cover the 50 µL, 100 µL, 200 µL, and 300 µL multichannel models.
- 1250 µL multichannel. Both the 50-1250 µL and 50-1250 µL XL tips are compatible.

Filter Tips: When to Use Them and What Fits
Filter tips add an aerosol barrier between the sample and the pipette body. They are the appropriate choice when working with volatile, hazardous, or infectious samples, or any application where aerosol contamination of the pipette shaft is a concern. Common applications include PCR work, RNA handling, cell culture, and clinical diagnostics.
- Small-volume filter tips. The 0.1-1 µL filter tip fits the 1 µL, 2.5 µL, 10 µL, and 20 µL single-channel models, plus the 10 µL multichannel. The 0.5-10 µL filter tip fits the 2.5 µL, 10 µL, and 20 µL models. The 1-20 µL filter tip fits the 10 µL and 20 µL models.
- Mid-range filter tips. The 2-20 µL filter tip covers the 20 µL through 200 µL single channel range, plus the 50 µL, 100 µL, and 200 µL multichannel models. The 5-100 µL and 5-200 µL filter tips both offer broad coverage across the 20 µL to 300 µL single channel range and the 50 µL to 300 µL multichannel range.
- High-volume filter tips. The 50-1000 µL filter tip fits the 500 µL and 1000 µL single-channel models. The 50-1250 µL and 50-1250 µL XL filter tips fit the 1000 µL single-channel and 1250 µL multichannel models.
